1) AS YOU SEW - (2) HIGH OFFICE

by Robert Gresak
(South Africa)

ALL PEOPLES ARE REALLY ALIKE,
WHY, AT THE SEEMING DICTATES
OF A CRUEL FATE DO THEY STRIKE?
WHY CRY AND BEMOAN THEIR TROUBLESOME LOT,
IT SHALL NOT ALTER THEIR PLIGHT
BY ONE JOT.
NOW OR LATE
THEY ARE THEMSELVES THE ARBITERS OF THEIR OWN FATE./

HIGH OFFICE

God give us true men and women,
the time demands strong minds,
great hearts and true faith in the
ultimate goodness of man and willing hands,
men and women whom the lust of high office
does not kill-whom the spoils of high office
cannot buy-who possess thought provoking opinions
and a compassion based will, who have honour and dignity
and who will not lie and be devious.
men and women who can stand before a demagogue and damn his
treacherous flatteries without pause,
who can stand tall and unafraid and do the right thing
not for self, but for their community, society, and for truth
even if it means having to be mocked, hounded, and driven
into the wilderness; men and women who will live above the fog
in public duty and in private thinking.
