3 Poems: 1. LISTEN TO ME, 2. PERSIST, 3. CLOSE IS THE HOUR

by Robert Gresak
(South Africa)

Listen to me for a day, an hour
even a moment
before my very self becomes
twisted and bent.

Listen to me in my terrible wilderness,
in my aching distress,
in my lonely silence.
Dear God is there no one to listen?

Is there no one to listen
with compassion-with sympathetic ear
to allay my rampant fear?

O yes indeed blessed soul there is one who listens,
who has always listened-who listens without condemnation.
He waits at the entrance of your souls station;
to your eternal spirit he is known.

He waits, and waits for you alone.

PERSIST

Alone, alone
heart heavy as stone,
yet I believe all is known
by far, far greater than I
and I take courage and comfort
as I seek to keep my souls fire lit.

CLOSE IS THE HOUR

The hour is close at hand
for souls to rise and expand
beyond the band
of all that is earthly;
to enter into divine love's supernal light
and grasp truths totality.

Brothers and sisters everywhere,
rise, rise and dare
the ascension to that light.

You need no material edifice in which to pray,
the glory of the incandescent day
lies within your very soul.

Know that the days of Mosque and church and temple
draw resolutely to a close.

'Tis time brothers and sisters to lovingly impose
your diamond bright will with love's glittering sword
and enter the abode within of the Great Lord
for know that man is swiftly coming of spiritual age.
