My Imaginary Friend
When I was a child I had an imaginary friend. I called her Metter. I had no idea why. I just knew that was her name.
I know a lot of children have imaginary friends and parents assume they are just that - imaginary.
I was an only child and I think my parents thought that I made up this "friend" to keep me company. The good thing was, they didn't discourage me or tell me she didn't exist. I am not sure how much they believed me though.
I know I did actually see someone. Once, when I was about four years old, my aunt Jean was over for tea. She began to sit down on a chair in the kitchen when I suddenly shouted "No! Auntie Jean, Metter is sitting there." I saw her in the chair, which was not unusual as I saw her all the time.
I think my aunt thought I was a bit daft, but I shocked her and she stood up. I then saw Metter leave the chair and said "It's okay now. She's gone." I wasn't a saucy child who would have ever spoken to an adult that way, nor would I have been allowed to. But I knew I had seen Metter. She was my friend and I saw her all the time.
By the time I was 7 or 8 years old, Metter gradually stopped appearing to me. I didn't fret, as I didn't seem to need her as much. It seemed very natural.
Over the years my interest in spirituality increased more and more, but I never thought to connect any of that to any experience I had ever had. I am always of the opinion that I am quite "dense" when it comes to spiritual experiences. I don't seem to see, hear or experience things the way some others do.
One day, as I was working with a pranic healer I had come to know well, she for some reason began to talk about children having imaginary friends and that they are actually often really angels who are there to protect a child. Apparently angels especially appear in the life of a child who is having a difficult childhood, which I felt I had.
I told Helen (the healer) that I Had an imaginary friend as a child. I couldn't imagine an angel being my imaginary friend. I told her my friend's name was Metter. Suddenly we looked at each other and at the exact same time said "Metratron". I said it with a questioning sound in my voice.
Archangel Metratron is a powerful archangel. He (angels are not sex specific although we tend to refer to them as "he") is one of only two archangels who is said to have actually lived a life on earth. Metratron is thought to have been the prophet and scribe Enoch. (In the Jewish Kaballah there is also a story of Metratron being created at the beginning of creation and being God's right hand.)
Archangel Metratron is said to have a special place in his heart for children, especially children who are spiritually gifted or are having difficulties. Helen told me I should ask if my imaginary friend was actually Metratron. She said I would receive an answer when I asked.
On the way home I decided to ask. As I said I had always seen myself as pretty dense when it comes to receiving messages from any kind of spirit, so I wasn't holding out much hope. I did ask though: "Dear Archangel Metratron, if it was you who was my imaginary friend, please give me some kind of sign". Immediately I felt this feeling of what I will call power surging up my spine. It was unlike anything I had ever felt before. If I had to give it a shape, I would say it was like a tall obelisk running up through my body. It stayed for about 30 seconds, then left me.
I was astounded to say the least. I sat there for a few minutes trying to absorb what had just happened. Then I thought that maybe it had just been my imagination. After all, I am the dense one, right? So I decided that I needed to ask one more time, just to see what happened.
I asked again. I said "I'm sorry Archangel Metratron but I am not sure if that was me or you. If you really were my imaginary friend, please find some way to show me again".
I suddenly felt engulfed by the most beautiful feeling of love I have ever felt. It surrounded me like large arms. It felt warm and extremely loving. It went away after 30 to 40 seconds like the power feeling had. I thanked Metratron for showing me his love and that he was there for me when I really needed someone.
When I went home I looked up Archangel Metratron in an angel book I have (Doreen Virtue is the best source for angel information). It turns out that there are a few variations in Metratron's name. One of the is Metteron, just a couple of letters away from Metter, my beloved childhood friend.
I can't tell you how overjoyed and honored I felt when I discovered that my imaginary friend had actually been Archangel Metratron. The fact that an angel, any angel, would take the time to be with me as a child, to comfort and protect me, was amazing and made me feel thankful and joyful. It also made me think I had better step up my game. If an archangel is your childhood friend, you must have been put here to do something good. Time to steps things up and make sure I do it.

"Children often have imaginary playmates. I suspect that half of them are really their guardian angels."
