The Law of Attraction
The law of attraction is one of the universal laws.
Universal laws are the laws of our universe that govern the world we experience as much as the physical laws, like the law of gravity or the laws of electricity, govern our physical experience.
The law of attraction (sometimes called "the Secret") says, "That which is like unto itself is drawn", often stated as "like attracts like".
What does that mean?
It means that, whether we are conscious of it or not, we are continually creating our lives. We are co-creators of our lives with God in every sense and at every step of the way.
It is another aspect of the mind body connection working in us that we are always talking about on this site.
How does the law of attraction work?
When we desire something - whether it is a new relationship, a better experience of an existing relationship, more money coming to us, an easier time with parenthood issues - whatever it is, when we think of or speak of that desire, that wanting, we are sending out a vibration to the universe that says "this is what I want".
Esther Hicks channels an entity called Abraham who speaks to us of the intricacies of the law of attraction. Esther would call these thoughts "rockets of desire" that we shoot out from ourselves whether we are conscious of it or not.
When we make that request by telling the universe "this is what I want", the law of attraction says that the result of that wanting is immediately fulfilled and waiting for us. It is always given to us immediately.
Esther Hicks refers to this phenomenon as "ask and it is given". The Universe immediately begins to send us what we have asked for.
So why aren't we all basking in the luxury of all we want? Well, there is a little IF buried in the law. We have to be ready to receive it.
The Universe responds, not just to our words, but to what we are feeling inside of us - our inner vibrations. If our vibrations are not a match for what we desire, we are really telling the Universe "I am not ready for this thing I am asking for". So we don't receive it.
This is how Abraham explains it through Esther Hicks:
"Law of Attraction says, "That which is like unto itself is drawn." Which means vibrations are always matched. So as you experience the contrast which inspires the new idea within you, this new idea — this desire — whether it is a strong one or a soft one, is summoning unto itself proportionately. And as it summons, it is always answered. It is the basis of our Universe: When it is asked, it is always given. The confusion that humans feel is that they think they are asking with their words — or even with their action — and sometimes you are. But the Universe is not responding to your words or your action. The Universe is responding to your vibrational calling." **
Here are some examples of how our underlying thoughts can work against us:
1. You very much want a romantic relationship with a wonderful partner to enter your life. You concentrate very hard on bringing someone wonderful to you. But what thoughts are behind your desire? You may be thinking that you are lonely and tired of being alone. Everyone else but me has someone. Am I ever going to find the person for me? I am not sure I ever will. They are feelings of lack.
Thoughts really are things in this universe. That negativity in your thoughts may cancel out your attraction of the perfect romantic partner and you remain alone. This too is the law of attraction at work. Your thoughts of lack and aloneness bring you more of the same.
2. You want more money. You ask for more money. You feel you need more money. You envy those who have more money or more "things" than you do.
The feelings of need or envy are feelings of lack. You are effectively saying: I lack the money I want and need and I envy those who have what I do not. Although you think you are sending out "rockets of desire" for more money, what you are really sending the Universe through your thoughts and feelings are vibrations of no money. Fear and feelings of lack are negative vibrations that you are holding and sending out.
3. A parent wants a better relationship with their child and prays for that. But if the parent's frustration with the child results in many daily negative thoughts both about the child and their ability to manage the child, the relationship stays the same or gets worse.
Here is the difficult thing for most of us - You have to believe it BEFORE you see it. Have every faith that what you sincerely want and ask for, through prayer or other requests to the Universe, will come. Then line yourself up to be the person to receive it.
Be the positive person who smiles and interacts joyfully with others. Be the parent who has positive thoughts about their relationship to their children regardless of what is going on at the moment. Be the person whose desire for more money is coupled with joy for those around you who have more money than you do right now.
Find ways to be happy NOW, just as you are, right where you are standing in the world and you are much more likely to end up with all those things you want.
Lack attracts more lack. Fullness attracts more fullness.
Easy to say but more difficult to do, right?
It is often difficult for most of us. We tend to see what is instead of what can be. We focus on those things in our lives that are difficult and unpleasant. We spend far too much time on the here and now and too little daydreaming about life as we really want it. We let those fears, feelings of unworthiness and negative thoughts enter our heads on a regular basis.
We may not be able to get where we want instantaneously, but we can get there.
If we determine each and every day to do our best to be happy right where we are, with what we have, not only are we more likely to draw more good to us through the law of attraction, we will be much happier on the journey. And isn't that what we all want when it comes right down to it? Feelings of peace and joy on a more regular basis?
The law of attraction is real and can certainly get you where you want to be in your life. Just be clear about what you really want, focus on it in a positive way and stay happy as much as you can. You will be on the right track and the journey, which is what it is all about anyway, will be much more joyful.

"Overwhelment is about you not being up to speed with what you told the Universe that you want. The Universe is yielding to you. You're just not ready to receive it right now."
